mATX not as impressive anymore when there's already mini ITX out. but still, i guess it gives us more choices
 
The advantage with this layout is that they can put the fully fledged power circuitry for the CPU.
 
why do they keep legacy support for IDE on boards with limited space like this? that goes for floppy drives as well.

also those capacitors around the cpu make this unsuitable for me and a Corsair H50.
 
It's between 775 an the i7 in size.
 
Would be hard for a smaller company like DFI to justify bothering tbh.

Why would it be? They pretty much started the whole current enthusiast performance boards with the P45. And Intel is marketing i5 as a mainstream set up = where the money's at.
 
Well the CPUs are going to be similarly priced to the I7s, mem is going to be a TINY bit cheaper (tri chanel kits cost only a little more than dual).

So intel is relying on the motherboards to cut the price of the set (chipset is cheaper). So that means that the margins are going to have to be slimmer.

May as well go for the full i7 with 920 (especially considering the market these are aimed at).

I completely agree. Unless Intel drops the i7 920 I will just be getting a x58 board in a few months. So far I am not seeing a p/g/q 55/57 board that has a layout I like.
