two hard drives or one

moving to xp pro from 2000 and want to put in more storage while I am at it. Currently have two ata 133 80 gig drives. planning an upgrade to a Sata Drive.goingto l keep the old ones for back up. Have raid on my board but should I use it. Would I be better to go with one big drive say a samsung 500 gig or two 250 gig and raid them. Note my board has sata 150 and most drives now are 300. I dont know if drivers every came out for my board for sata 300 . Will the Sata 300 work ok on a 150 interface and is raid worth the trouble. Would one drive be nearly as fast.

Yes, a SATA II drive will work just fine for SATA I ports. You may have to jumper it though.

And no, don't use the RAID on your motherboard as you will most likely not need it.
