Two different temp readings for C2D E6550

Certain software such as Speedfan gives temp reading for each core, while SiSoft Sandra gives just one reading for the CPU

At full load on both core, Speedfan is giving me a temp of 53c for both core
However at the same time, SiSoft Sandra is reporting the temp to be 69c - 70c

So, are both reading different part of the CPU? Or one of them is wrong?

ps: if its 70c, is that too hot?

Yes, there is a serious issue in the temperature readings of C2Ds. The problem is, the CPU doesn't report its actual temp but rather how close it is to Tjunction (maximum) temperature. So programs like SiSoft and SpeedFan (as well as CoreTemp) have to assume what Intel considers Tjunction temperature. And assuming that value varies between each program.

CoreTemp as well as SiSoft Sandra assume a Tjunction of 100C and subtracts whatever the CPU reports, whereas SpeedFan uses 85C. Therefore, you will see a 15C difference between those programs. And a 15C difference is a rather large ambiguity between users posting their temperatures, which is why you should never post JUST your load temps but rather the difference between idle and load.

speedfan reports my idle temp to be about 40. that means an increment of about 13c

SiSoft Sandra reports my idle temp about 56c. So roughly the increment at load is about 14c too...

are those high?
 
Hey, can anyone tell me what Speedfan v4.33 Temp1 and Temp2 are on a Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R mobo? Temp1 may be the NB, on which I have a fan so it stays relatively low, but Temp2 can go nuts under load so I'd like to get some cooling on it whatever it is. The four cores are okay.
 
Temp 1 is ambient/NB. Not very consistent if you ask me.
Temp 2 is CPU.
Core temps as listed. Temp 2 ~= Core temps.
 
Use CoreTemp 0.95.4 to measure core temps. Its best to keep your CPU at 60°C or lower at full load. The CPU's max is around 85°C, IIRC.
