Question 1

I just installed a MSI 6600GT.

Should I be using driver version 66.93 (11/9/04) from the NVIDIA site or version 71.22 (1/5/05) from the MSI site? .... or something else?

Question 2

Athlon XP 3000+, 1GB DDR333, and MSI 6600GT.

What display settings would you recommend playing Doom3 at? ... and does it make a difference what my display settings are set at in windows before I start Doom3?

66.93 are said to be the best for gaming. The 71's are betas. no your desktop has nothing to do with doom 3, you can change doom's settings in the main menu.

1. The 71.22 will give a better 3dmark score but I feel the 66.93 are more stable *shrug*. At least this is my experience.

2. I have your system pretty much but as a 3200+ @ 400 FSB/RAM. I can do 1280x1024 @ 2x AA & HQ with about 60 FPS idling and dropping to about 40 FPS if things get heavy. Just make sure your bios is updated, MB is updated, and you use driver cleaner between driver upgrades.

Side notes...

The 6600 GT has exceeded my expectations on what this card should be able to do at 1280x1024 resolution.

Not sure about the MSI 6600 GT, but Doom3 really wants at least 1 GHz on the RAM if you want any AA. The cards doing 900 Mhz are robbing you blind. So if yours is doing 900 MHz OC it ASAP and hope it is stable (the worst rams i've seen are 2ns so the 1 GHz on the ram should be okay

Ok I ran the Nvidia OC utility and 3DMark2001.

With driver 66.93 and 500/900 I get a score of 13507.
With driver 66.93 and 579/1006 I get a score of 13712.

205 pts. with the overclock.

Do these scores sound about right? I've never used 3DMark before.
