Tube TV

I am wondering foremost if I can make a PS2 look semi-decent on my LCD screen. I've not had great luck with it even on component connection. I have a pretty bad/old 27" Olevia that has a 13xx by 7xx native resolution (yuck), should I grab a tube (SD) tv that someone is selling locally for $50? Can't be any worse but I don't know what model the local sale one is. Need to find out. If the best solution is to wait and get a much better LCD, I can also bide my time and do that but I am looking at Best Buy models for now. I don't really want to spend more than $700 which is pretty low, I know. Thanks for any ideas.
