Trying to decide

How do I tell if I have one or two running? Does it automatically know to run 2 if I have a dual core or do I have to set it up to run 2? If I have to set it up to run 2 then it is only running one since I am clueless about these things.
 
are you looking at the basic view on the boinc software or are you looking at the advanced view?

advanced view should look like this..

So how does this look? How long does it take to have your projects show up. There is still nothing either in my program on my computer or on the WCG web site.

WCG updates every 12 hours.. 12 GMT 00 GMT but it can take 1-2 days for points to show up..


also in your advanced/preferences/network usage tab change the additional work buffer to 3 days. should queue up more projects for you.

btw what is your e6850 clocked at? is it at stock or do you have it overclocked? theres no way the projects should be taking that long unless your processor is downclocking its self.(check with cpu-z to see what your clock speeds are)
 
It is not overclocked. Someone said to ignore the times for the first 20 or so projects I do. Should I be concerned or should I just wait a few days and see if it gets a better time?

yeah i was the one but 7 hours seems a bit long for only 50%. especially when the other WU has done 65% in almost the same amount of time.
 
Well the top one is down to 4 1/2 hours now and its only been maybe an hour since I did the screen shot. The second one is still at 3 1/2 hours. So those times don't seem very accurate to me.
 
Under 'preferences' processor useage there is a box that says to switch between applications every 120 minutes.Is that a problem?
 
nah thats if your running multiple projects. for example i have malariacontrol.net and WCG in mine. so if i had both running it would switch ever 120 minutes between projects.


ahh its paused. go into your advanced/preferences/processor usage and change while processor usage is less than 25% and set it to 0. looks like theres something you are running that uses a fair bit of the processor which is pausing the client. it wont effect what ever you are running but it will keep it from pausing.

I already had the processor useage at 0. I changed the other settings. I'll watch a little while, but it is still paused. Could there be a problem with my CPU?
 
could be a problem with the WU. click the WU and click suspend on the left then resume and see what happens. if its still paused. then click on it and click abort. then go to the projects tab and click on the WCG project and click update.
 
That didn't help. Should I try to overclock my CPU? I did that when it was new, but reset to stock since this is only for internet, word processing and email. I figured why overclock when it won't make any difference in what you are doing, but shorten the life of your CPU while doing essentially nothing.

completely up to you. your hardware, your electricity bill but shouldnt be the reason why the WU's paused.
 
ANd the top one. The one that is running. Since I did that screen shot it says 1:10 has elapsed, but 3 hours have been cut from the time to complete.
I'll wait until the one that is running finishes and see if the other one starts to process.
