Story:
I have to tag individual processors for tracking purposes. I found these tiny RFID tags that would fit right next to the IHS on all pentium processors. The rated operating Temp for these RFID tags is 85c. I've read through many many Intel datasheets showing mechanicals and thermal design characterisitcs, and I have yet to find one where they say the Maximum "Tcase" temp is above 80c. Now, a couple questions.
What does "maximum Tcase temp" signify? The point when the processor will stop functioning? The processor must always be kept below this value, correct?
If the IHS (integrated heat sink) ever hit 80c, how much hotter would the area surrounding the IHS be?
An engineer told me "That tag better be able to handle 150-200c!"..
That sounds like horseshit in my experience. Anyone?
