First of all, who even knew there was even such a thing as “e-mail addiction” let alone a 12 step program to beat it. Complicating matters, you have a self professed “addict” explaining why these 12 steps are worthless.

2. Commit to keeping your inbox empty.

What am I missing? I'm already committed to keeping my inbox empty. I'm so committed to keeping my inbox empty that I'm checking my e-mail more often than hibernating animals breathe. I don't need more commitment. I need to be committed.

What about...

1a) IM
1b) Away message checking (guilty)
2) Facebook (guilty)
3) Myspace/xanga/etc. (hate both)
4) eBay
5) ESPN (guilty)
6) Newegg (guilty)
7) The [H] (guilty)

And tons of other online things people are addicted to. :D

Although, I wouldn't call them addictions unless people are doing them to avoid some other task. They're more habitual for me for when I'm idle.

Man they are considering everything an addiction lately.

That is about the most ridiculous set of "steps" I've ever seen for anything. Even the underpants gnomes make more sense.

It seems like the author put about 5 seconds worth of thought into each step, and didn't bother to think about whether or not they would ever stand even the most remote chance of possibly thinking about maybe helping somebody deal with a problem that doesn't exist.

Hahaha nice.

Anyway to quote step one.

1. Admit that e-mail is managing you. Let go of your need to check e-mail every ten minutes.

Where are those Guinness guys from the TV commercials when you need them? Brilliant! I'll just "let go" of my need to check e-mail every 10 minutes (if only I could wait 10 minutes) and there will be no need at all for the next 11 steps. Brilliant!

Who needs to check email every 10 minutes? My blackberry goes off for every email.

Person really needs to get a life. The email steps are a bunch of crap.

.

Me... My gmail doesn't go off every email, and you know, someone could have sent me something....

*cries in the corner*
