So I was reading the thread bellow on moving your case to lans and stuff. Well I'm going to the Million Man Lan and I have to fly out. I will be bringing my case which is WaterCooled and I still have the box and foam to put the case in. Do you reccomend taking the video card and cpu out of the case before transporting it, or would it make much of a difference.

Also who do you think would be safer: FedEx or as Checked in luggage.

FedEx +++++++++++

Insure it, fed ex it, and hope for the best. Checked luggage gets beat to hell.

I would drain the system too, even fedex throws shit around. The cpu should be fine if you leave it in, the video card, if there is some way you can tie off the far corner of it to the case to give a bit of added support then it should be fine (should be fine anyways).

At the very least pack your vid card seperately. Why even take the chance when it's too easy to just throw in a nice padded box.

Someone suggested on another thread to fill the inside with packing peanuts and close the case. This way if something comes loose it wont be bouncing inside the case. Drain it but if your pump isnt tied down remove it.

uhm, and in the same thread another person warned against it. Ever heard of static electricity?

well....since someone already suggested fedex....have you thought about getting your computer its own seat on the plane?

LMAO you know how many wierd looks you would get..."and what would like to eat sir? I'll take the chicken, my computer would like the vegetarian entree though"

meh, i've seen it done before, guy got his YY cube a window seat for a flight to a lan party. he had his water cooled and didn't trust fedex or airport baggage handlers.

I had a computer shipped to me with the CPU and HSF installed. When I got it the actual socket was ripped off the motherboard. This was back in the socket A days.

When I got my cat from Puerto Rico they made my family pay for a ticket for the cat and stick her in an "Air line certified pet carrier" with a little armored top so she wouldn't be injured when we stuck her under the seat. They probably have some other similar policy for computers.

Worst case, just buy a ticket for the bulkhead (very very front row of the seats) Where you have like 4x the leg room and stick your computer by your feet.

but how about safety issues with bulkhead seat? Might want to see if it's allowed with the arline.
