So I'm trying to install an SSD drive into my HTPC.
The driver is an 80GB Intel SSD.
The problem is windows backup won't restore to the SSD because it is smaller than the systems original drive (300GB).
I'm only using 49GB on the 300GB drive so the image should fit but win7 backup and restore will not let me!
I tried to restore from a WHS backup as well and that system has the same problem
WHS won't partition the drive correctly, so my idea was to copy the WHS image to the SSD, create a new backup, then use windows restore to align the partition correctly).
Am I out of luck? I was thinking about installing acronis but that jacked up my win7 install last time and I can no longer use the System Restore option on that computer (Which is required to align the partitions correctly). Yes you can use the system restore to migrate to an SSD and properly align the partitions I have tested it at work. But apparently the destination disk needs to be the same or larger than the original regardless of the amount of data on the disk.
I really don't want to invest another 40+ hours of work setting up the HTPC again from scratch. Lots of XML configurations etc to get channel data for OTA TV.
