Hey, I was OC'in my 2400 on a Shuttle AN35N Ultra. For some reason if I set the FSB too high (only 140) then when I restart I would get a black screen and I would have to unplug the comp. I read the OC guide and realized I could push my voltage up higher than what I have been doing. SO I raised the voltage to 1.9 and put the FSB to 145. Now the screen is black, bios reset doesn't work and I can even get a boot up screen, What should I do?

Wow 1.9 ? thats quite high, anyway i assume you reset the cmos? Look for anything burnt or bulging on the motherboard, or if you smell anything funky, try another psu, it should just be a simple cmos reset though.
 
helpful hint for next time, only bump up the voltage when you need to. 1.9v shouldn't kill the chip, but it sure is a lot.
 
need more info!

what is your memory rated to run at? running it with a divider or what?

what psu are you running?

did you lock your agp/pci bus before playing with the front side bus?

and yeah 1.9v is awfully high...especially on not so good cooling....i can barely run that kinda voltage on water! which brings me to my next question, what kind of cooling you got on that cpu?
 
I have a Zalman fan, really good but as soon as I said save settings it just wouldn't even start, not even to the bios screen. It has happened to me before with this mobo and I RMA it for a new one. I just want to find out if I have any other options. The chip is ok, I tested in another mobe. Before I pushed up the voltage, the same thing would happen but instead of clearing cmos what I had to do is turn off the power to the comp and then it would restart as a 1800 and I just change the settings back. Now that doesn't help. It just stays a black screen. I cleared cmos multipile times, always a black screen.
 
i'll assume you tried unplugging the power supply and taking out the battery while clearing the bios?
 
As Eclicpse said, unplug the PSU cord and pull out the CMOS battery. Let is sit outside for about 5 minutes then put it back in.

Try to restart the computer again. As long as your mobo hasn't died, that should've fixed it.
 
do any fans and lights come on (and stay on) when you press the power button? if so then you have either damaged you cpu or your memory. If no fans come on or if the spin for a sec then stop then there is a good chance you have FRIED your mobo...I feel your pain ive killed eight in the last six months. Motherboards are hands down THE weakest component in any system not so closely follow by ram then video card then your cpu...cpus are very hard to "kill" as are memory modules.

EDIT: Or it could be you psu ;)
 
It's not the ram or the CPU cause they work in my other mobo. The lights come on and the fans spin. I am trying the unplug and remove battery. I'l get back in like 10 min. also while the battery is out, should I try clearing the cmos by jumper?
 
.... now I have to use my old mobo which has issues with sp1 and 2, so it doesn't start and I have to use linux. How the hell do u get nvidia drivers on this??? God can't wait till my RMA clears and I get a new mobo. bah, screw the 1GB memory stick, what is the cheapest good OC mobo for an Athlon 64 (winchester, probobly a 3000)

8??? I do some crazy shit with my computers and have smoked a few CPU's in my time, but 8 motherboards?

thats what happens when you run a prescott at 1.6vcore...those things arent safe at ALL :(
 
I'm glad I stick with AMD processors! Maybe things will improve when you can run a Nvidia chipset on an Intel CPU. I think Intel's run way too hot and they don't like people OC their processors...perhaps it's an Intel conspiracy to blow your equipment up if you try to play games. :eek:
