topic notifications?

I was just wondering if there was, or if there could be a topic notification feature? As in, if you subscribe to be notified on 'X800' then whenever someone posted a thread with the word 'X800' in the subject, you would get an email notification.
 
i think that would be very expensive cpu/load wise to try to keep track of
 
Fat Wallet uses it which is what made me curious...I really like it and use it there all the time on several key words.
