Is there a place that lists the top monitors of the year based on performance and no defects? I want a new monitor for movies, gaming, and general internet that isn't a TN panel. I like the 2209WA and several monitors that are in threads here, but it seems like the threads are filled with people who are in the process of returning them multiple times. Are there this many quality issues with LCD monitors right now?

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. Because just like any product, the more you pay the higher quality it is.

No defect free monitors.

these.

but do consider, that even the highest end components from companies like LaCie and Barco will have "one that slips through", QA/QC is not an exact science, and theres a chance you'll get a defective product and have to return it for a replacement (which a reputable reseller like newegg will gladly do, and a vendor like Dell will do (and apparently pay shipping both ways))

if you're unwilling to take this kind of risk, I don't think anyone here can help you

To add to the point above

Consumer grade panels aren't exactly have to be topnotch.

Anyway, the 2209WA is the best option atm and remember the good old sales vs faulty ratio

All LCD monitors have some issues. Whether they are important to you or not depends on you.

For example, I bought the 26" Planar PX2611w to use as a secondary monitor for the following reasons:

1. H-IPS panel
2. Less than 8ms input lag
3. Relatively inexpensive price of $800 compared to my $1,200+ NEC 2690WUXi from 2007.

The big con is for console gamers (not me) because this monitor displays color bands when playing PS3 and XboX 360 games at 1080p resolution. No such issues with PC gaming.

The big con for the OP will probably be the $800 price tag.
