Well its that time of the year again. I got a itch to rebuild/downsize my server. Decided to custom build a case. The server is gonna be ITX based.

Parts:
ITX board
core2duo chip
2gigs of ram
I'm thinking either a 16gig compact flash or 16gig thumbdrive for System drive
Total number of harddirves is undecided as of now. Probably 12-15
Going to be using WD 1TB RE3 drives

Ideas & Misc
OS = Linux (Ubuntu, I'm thinking)
Raid = Maybe, don't really want to lose space to overhead. But linux software raid looks pretty good. Anyone have any decent experience with it?
Primary Use = Media Storage & Torrent Machine

And now pictures of what I have so far. If I do add more drives I plan on just adding another hdd rack/fan combo upwards. A larger base too.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Ask please. Thanks!

What are your plans with raid? A straight raid 0 array would be too risky with that many drives, while a straight raid 1 array would be terribly slow. Planning for 5 or 6 I'd assume? Of course at the same time, JBOD would work pretty well too since as a media/torrent pc write/read speeds aren't too important until you transfer files (I assume over a LAN).

I was thinking raid 6 because of the amount of drives I'm planning on using. Yeah the files would be streamed over LAN.

Probably gonna put a par of 60mm fans so the motherboard gets some airflow too.
