510W PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool Deluxe PSU for $185

I'm sure its a good power supply and it's onsale as linked to the sale forum (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=869620) but like i asked there, who really pays $200 (with shipping) for a power supply for their home machine?

Am I just a cheap bastage, or am I right? is $185.00 too much for a home machine power supply?

People who want the best.

If you're building a highend rig with the best of everything, the last thing you should do is skimp on the PSU.

The power supply is the foundation of every computer out there... to build a cutting-edge system with high-end components on an unstable foundation is just asking for problems down the road.

I payed just bout 250 a bit over for mine. I believe if you pay for cheap stuff you get cheap stuff.

I also learn from my mom that this is true. She would spend 5$ on some cheap stuff, this thing breaks 2 months later and she gets another. Repeats this mulitple times. It then starts to cost her about 30$ when from the start, if she would have gotten a 30$ item that was expensive it would have lasted longer and saved the hassle.

Get the expensive stuff, you save in the end and will be more happy.

It isn't so much get the expensive stuff as get the QUALITY stuff. If you are a smart shopper you can find quality at reasonable prices.

thats true. I just didnt say what i wanted to say correctly.

If there's a sony remote control for 15$ and a no name for 5$, my mom would get the 5$.

Sony is a better brand, the overall material is a lot better as well, she'll still get the no name.

the no name brakes and she gets pissed. repeat.

so if you woulda went with the 15$ sony it would have probably lasted longer.

This is just an example.

Ok. I got you. I just wanted to be sure people weren't simply equating cost with quality. They quite often go hand in hand but not always.....and you really can price things around and get good quality reasonably priced if you work at it and don't fall into the got to have it right this instant trap. I spent 9 months of hard shopping to find my TV at a price I was willing to pay but it did save me around 1200 on a really amazing TV

maybe i've just been lucky with my $40 400 watt power supply in my everyday machine.

it's been up and constantly running for like 2 years. It is connected to a UPS, powers 1 HDD, 1 CDRW, 1 Floppy, and a video card, 4 fans. and lights.

I guess there are people who will spend more on power then I do.

It was just a question.

You're on a UPS. That helps a lot. Any PSU should be on a UPS, makes the PSU work easier.
