TomatoUSB Intel 6230 stuck at 54mbps

I have Tomato USB running on an Asus RT-N16 and an Asus RT-N12 and can not get my new laptop with a Intel 6230 card to connect over 54mbps. The same routers running dd-wrt connect at 300mbps. Why not use dd-wrt? #1 Almost every build for the past year has been buggy/unstable. #2 Every build period has shit QOS. #3 Tomato's OpenVPN implementation is great. I'll probably go OpenWRT if I can't find a solution.
