I am measuring one of my molex connectors voltage because the maxtor I just got back from rma started smoking. I am getting +12.10 - +12.20 and +5.10 - +5.18. Does this sound high to you? High to the make a chip on the harddrive smoke?

It's off by 1.6% and 3.6%, well within the ATX tolerance of 5%, but the numbers could be meaningless if they were taken through software rather than a meter.

Most chips are made for +-5% or +-10%, and the PSU's overvoltage protection usually won't kick in until about +20%.

Ok cool. I took the mesurment with a meter. Its just when I plugged in my maxtor hd fresh from rma it started to smoke.
