do you agree with the assertion that the sstones aren't as well thought out internally, aside from the fact that they have more space internally because they're a much bigger case?

Well there are several aspects about many Silverstone cases I don't like. The largest exception to that rule is the TJ-09 which is one of the best designed cases I've seen in recent years. As I have found out with the P190 bigger isn't always better when it comes to case design.
 
I just got a TJ-09 myself last week and I must say that I'm very impressed as well. Never seen a case like this seriously, the build quality, looks and handiness overall make it amazing.

I have almost always found Thermaltake's cases to be unappealing from an asthetic standpoint but also I've found the quality of many of their cases to suffer. Aside from that some of them are well designed layout wise and some are not.

As of the time this post was written there is not a single Thermaltake case I would ever use for any reason.
 
Hmm, so I think I've whittled it down to just the 182SE and the TJ09.

I must admit I prefer the appearance of the 182SE over the TJ09 and it's big enough for my needs at this stage and into the future (for the type of system that this will always be).

It's only downside is that it'll be a 'challenge' (to say the least) to fit a decent & thorough WCS in it whilst also maintaining enough internal space for my current components and a few extra items that I may obtain in the future. I'm sure it's completely doable but I'm yet to fully determine this.

Then again the overall appearance of the TJ09 is not that bad & I wont have lost all my hair after retro-fitting my PC with a WCS, as I will have by the time I'm finished with the 182SE! :)

I don't even know if I'll end-up with a WCS in the long term, it's just something I may get round to, it's by no means imperative!
The air cooling system I'm going to setup will be more than quiet enough in my lounge room. The idea does excite me though, so I think there's a good chance ;-P

The TJ09 is approx. $115 Ausd more than the 182SE but this is to be expected; bigger case, all aluminum etc.
I could've saved a further $70 if I went with the plain P182 but I don't mind paying a bit more for some bling! ;-)

Hmmm it's a 'toughie', I'm gunna find a shop that has both cases and have long hard "captain cook" over the weekend.

Don't go with the 182SE for water cooling. I've got a P182 and I have considered using it for water cooling. There are a number of problems with doing that though. Radiator placement being just one of those. The Swiftech with Radbox for example won't fit due to clearance issues of the side panel. Theres really no way to cut it either and it not look like a complete hackjob. This leaves only one place to put the radiator and that's on the top of the case. There is also issues with pump placement.

I don't mind placing a 3x120mm radiator on top of this case. I could even build a little steel enclosure that makes the whole thing look as though it's still part of the case. The only thing that concerns me is having to compromise on pump or reservoir quality so as to not take-up the wrong space internally. I've heard you can get reservoirs that sit in 2x 5 1/4' bays. So that just leaves where to put the pump & it I'm guessing it'll have to be low profile so hopefully that doesn't mean shitty pump rate.

But apart from having more space internally, what's so great about the TJ09? I can't see any other extra features/advantages it has over the P182? All aluminum is a bit of a myth if you ask me, yeah it's lighter but cooling properties has been proven to be negligible. So anything else that's so good about it compared to the p182?

It's so frustrating not being able to find a shop that stocks everything I'm wanting co compare, it'd make things so much easier! :D
Anyway xtremesystems seems to be a good resource for this topic so I'm doing some more reading and will stop hijacking this thread!

Well, you right, internally the TJ09 wins hands down. Thats usually what is most important to people due to the fact that new hardware is becoming larger and longer every year. The space gives you more leg room in picking hardware you want including what water cooling system. TJ09 will last you longer in the long run with upgrades or even being reused for your next rig.

P182 construction is very nice, and it is a lot quieter but you also need to be careful on the hardware you pick, such as what water cooling system you going to go with, since space can be a factor.

Some want or need that quietness while others need the space. Decide on whats more important to you. Either decision you make, the cases you are looking at will accommodate you very well.
 
I've ruled out Antec and am looking purely at Lian-Li & Silverstone cases now.
I was looking at some cube cases from mountain mods and Lian li but they're really overkill for my needs.
