First I want to thank the User auf_krawall_gebürstet from the 3DC forums, because he found out about the whole thing.
Many people play with vsync on because they don't like tearing. However, there is noticable lag associated with it.
If you cap your fps at exactly 1 below the refresh rate of your monitor, input lag is greatly reduced and you still maintain a tearing free image. I tried it myself in Skyrim, UT3 and X3 Terran Conflict. Input was much much more direct, I would even go so far and call it a nigh night and day difference.
Useful tools that can do that are Dxtory, Bandicam and the new limiter in the 295.18 geforce drivers (wait for next WHQL release on this one though). Make sure by using fraps that you actually have 59fps (in case of a 60Hz screen). Dxtory doesn't work in conjunction with MSI Afterburner/EVGA Precision or possibly other tools. At least on Nvidia hardware, that is.
Please give some feedback if it makes a difference for you.
