We just got a new Apple Xraid here at work with the full 14 400gb drives for 5.6tb of storage. Well the way Apple has it set up in the box is with 2 raid controllers, each controller controling 7 hard drives. So anyway I have it hooked up to a XServer and have each controller set in Raid 5 and now I'm striping the two Raid 5's. So now my question is how long should this take? It's been running almost 12hrs and it's now getting up to 70% done. We've never worked with this much storage so I'm just looking to see how long it should take with other storage systems. Thanks in advance.

Arrays north of 1TB, especially on ATA drives, will take quite some time to build with RAID-5. Get used to tape, or better yet, convince your boss to higher a junior admin to deal with the backup chores ;)

It's all for video streaming we will be providing to the districts in our county. We've already got arc serve for back up and a few tape drives (basically that's someone elses job) so we are all set on backups. Do you have any case studies on that DougLite or is that coming from personal experience?
