Thumb drive, drive letter mapping

this question is about using multiple usb devices. I've got a usb thumbdrive and a digital camera. What I want to do is have shortcuts for each on my desktop.

The problem is that everytime they are removed they lose their association with their drive letter (or there isn't one, rather). Then everytime a usb device is plugged in it searches for the next available letter. So what happens is if both devices are plugged in at different times they both are mapped to the same place (E:/), but if they're plugged in at the same time, they'll be mapped to different places (E:/, F:/).

Is there a way to make those two drive letters permenantly mapped to these seperate devices regardless of whether they are connected?

Thanks

1. right click on "My Computer"
2. Left click on "Manage"
3. Goto Disk Management
4. with devices connected, you can assign the drive letter for that device in this area
now everytime you connect either or both devices they will use the drive letter that you assigned in Disk management

This is for 2k and XP
98 and I think ME you will have to goto the device manager and then goto the device hit properties, and then i think on the general tab there is an option for assigning the drive letter for the device...cant remember off the top of my head though cause its been so long since i've used 98 and I wont use ME it really blows ass
