Seems like a lot of threads were deleted recently - like in the last day.

What happened?

Usually the mod/admin responsible will leave a message as to why. If not, assume it violated one of the rules. Occasionally, the threadstater will request a thread deleted for whatever reason they might have.

No I don't mean a thread here and there.

I mean historical threads were deleted - tons of them.

Take a look at any of the popular threads and you'll see that the historical threads are gone.

For example the cars forum, why is it that the oldest thread is from yesterday??

I know the car forums have been around longer than that.

As I recall, the Hard forums went down yesterday or the day before - coicendence ? I don't think so ;)

DB crash/corruption?

Well, the DB was down earlier today... have you checked your "threads shown" option in your CP, though? Might just be that they passed that threshold.

Ok, a few months ago, during the VB2 -> VB3 upgrade, all threads and accounts that had not seen activity in 6 months were purged, to make the DB more efficient, smaller, and make searches faster. This was during the two week or so downtime that was present at hardforum.

Again, check the cars forums.

Oldest thead I could find was yesterday !!

Something aint right

That's your CP option, then. Change the viewed threads. I see 20+ pages in there.

And oh yeah, I wouldn't trust any instructions M11 gives you :D
(are you even allowed to give instructions in here any more?)

grrr:p

its a CP option
here is the oldest thread in the car forum http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=708092 (date: 1-1-04)

you may also use the display tools at the bottom of the page when viewing the subforum index

ok, i changed the CP option and now I can see more theads.

Mods must have changed the default value for that option.

The default forum view is set to show threads from the last 24 hours. We experienced a bit of downtime last night, so not as many threads are showing up.

Below the list of thread titles within a forum you'll see "display options" where you can set it to show more than just one day's worth. I'm guessing that's the issue here? I just set the cars forum to show "from the beginning" and get threads back to January, which was the cutoff with the upgrade.

No prunings have been done since the upgrade. But the mods/admins do manually remove objectionable threads as they are found. We're (1) trying to keep the forums safe for viewing in a work environment, and (2) figure you probably don't want to look at stuff like senior citizen gay porn and such. Or if you do, there are better places for that anyway. ;)

See what happens when it takes a few minutes to respond on a blindingly fast dialup? :p

LordBritish, glad ya got it figgered out. I'll consider this ticket closed. ;)
