I just picked up a couple of ThermoChill PA 120.3 radiators, but they didn't come with barbs. I am wanting to run 1/2" tubing, so where do I get some good barbs for them? Also, what is the thread type?
 
The thread is G3/8" so you have 2 choices :

Order a pair of G3/8" 1/2" barbs from NCIX or buy a pair of adapters from McMaster.com (4860K657) then use a pair of standard G1/4" barbs.

 
Yes, basically. There is also plastic barbs sold by Danger Den but they don't seal very well so I don't recommend them.

 
Yep just posted about this a couple days ago. All kinds of issues :(

NCIX will only take PP from US customers.

Had to pay a friend to order them for me :(..... I wish stores that sell the thermochills would stock these. My old plastic barbs I was using started to leak ever so slightly after 2.5 years. Not enough to really drip but just leave coolant buildup around them...Go for the metal barbs from NCIXUS however be warned they are a bit loose for real 1/2 inch tubing. Someone left a comment saying it should be ok for 7/16ths Masterclear though.

I actually went to Home Depot and bought the plastic type barbs. I put some teflon tape on them and haven't had a problem. They are also tight enough, that they hold 1/2" tygon on without any clamps. It's going to be a pita when I ever want to take them off.

Yea mine help up for 1.5 to 2 years before they started to leak. I think as they heat up and cool down the plastic barbs warp or something. I even pressure tested the loop and it was fine, yet when I pulled the system out they were leaking a little. $25 for no leaks inside my cmoputer is a worthwhile investment. (I got an extra set for the old thermochill radiator as well.)
 
I ended up going with the barbs from NCIX, under $25 and metal, no plastic. :p
 
Yea I got impatient and decided to just use the plastic barbs for a bit. if they leak a few drops my radiator is on the bottom of the case anyways. But I will be swapping out for the Metal barbs soon and even replacing the cheap O-rings with Vitons...

Maybe overkill but thats what water cooling and [H] is all about :)

EDIT: Got my barbs from NCIX, they look great. The barb itself looks a bit small though I hope these are the right ones I won't know until I get home from work. They have a very nice O-ring seal where the O-ring is recessed a bit as it shoudl be (but is not with my DD barbs). However looking inside them there is a bit of a lip I'm wondering if it can be ground down to help with flow.
 
Hmmm I measured the NCIX barbs the Base opening (threaded part is 7/16ths wide)
The top is only 5/16th (just over 1/4th of an inch) These look very restrictive.
 
I pulled out a ruler and some Danger Den "High Flow" 1/2 inch barbs.

The barb end is 7/16" ID. The screw end is 3/8" ID (this is for a G 1/4" thread fitting).

I should have stated mroe clearly that the barb end is 5/16th ID...

Looks like the only place to get proper thermochill barbs is Australia and UK then. Guess I will have to send these back and stick with the craptastic plastic ones. Starting to wish i didn't buy a thermochill I will have to stop recommending them until someone releases some real barbs for them without having to ship them from outside the USA... At least I should not have to pay for shipping back to Canada since the product does not match the description...not found of DD's new G1/4 stuff either. not sure why it became a standard their older 9/16th stuff was real nice.

None of their US Resellers stock them either I checked long before I ordered from Canada. Theres a couple more shops in the UK and Austrailia that have some supposed Thermochill barbs, but I'll probably just stick with plastic ones as I can't afford to spend $50 for metal barbs... I'm already in the hole $25 now unless I can get my friend to fill out an RMA request. I had to have a friend order since NCIX does not take credit card and my PP account was waiting to get reactivated (someone hacked into my acount somehow).

Although I admit I may be jumping the gun but ti does not appear that this is the case. Waiting a month for friggin barbs? Thats a load of crap.

They may cause problems in my setup. I don't have much space between the radiator and pump. Less than an inch...Adapter will stick out. So then I have to order Ek Low Profile barbs. I also think swiching down to G1/4th will be restrictive in itself?

I think my best bet will be to use the plastic barbs, at least a little it will juts drip on my desk and hopefully not empty out my entire loop while I am at work....Otherwise I may as well just buy a new radiator, im not wanting to spend $50-70 on barbs.

Metal barbs is 5/16ths
Plastic barb is 3/8ths (6/16th's for the math challenged)

Not sure which one I should be using now...

Since the radiator is on the bottom it is goign to be a real pain to swap them around. I'm also not sure the metal barbs are anymore leak proof than the plastic ones. Since the 7/16th tubing is a loose fit around it (needs clamps)...
 
Looking at the pic of the installed radiator and the clearance with the pump, I believe that the adapter with a normal barbs will fit. The plastic barbs is tapered so it won't screw all the way but the adapter will. it will roughly take the same space as the incomplete plastic threads. Also, the plastic barbs is usually a bit longer than metal ones.

Thanks for the heads up, the metal barbs do typicaly seem a bit shorter. I do wonder how much differnece going down 1/16th of an inch would really make over such a short distance. Perhaps the flow would just be accelerated through the the length of the barb? I'm probably making this into more of a problem than it really is?

Yeah, you are basically splitting hairs here about restriction :) Keep in mind that the TC radiators itself has almost NO restriction so you can afford this without problems.

Ok so if anyone asks I will pass the word but I guess I'll just go with what I got. By Build isn't so much for looks and bling as it is straight performance. Shortest runs possible etc. Someone from the UK could make some good money bring a bunch of decent barbs in from the UK :) I already found some thicker Viton O-rings that fit on the new barbs rather than the cheap ones that cracked on me last time.
