The massive Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E is on the test bench today at ocaholic. If you are in the market for a new cooler, you should definitely check out this review.

With the Silver Arrow SB-E, Thermalright has a very impressive cooler in its portfolio. With suitable fans mounted the cooler weigh 1124 Gramms, which really is something. Something else you wont find with other coolers is the fact that Thermalright equipped this cooler with eight heatpipes whereas each has a diameter of six millimeter. We're really curious to see what this monster is capable of.
 
I'm not sure that if it's better than the original Silver Arrow.
 
It's better with slower air movement.. slower fans but not much better..

Alpenfohn K2 aka Deepcool Assassin, Noctua D14, Phanteks TC!4PE etc are all about the same
 
Well, it's designed for SB-E, and supposedly it does work well on those CPUs at very high heatloads. I'd think it'd be a waste on Ivy because...the 8-pipe base is just too large to effectively transfer much additional heat from such a small die.

I haven't used the K2 or Phanteks units, but I feel that the original Silver Arrow is better than the NH-D14 (esp. because the fans are better). I haven't used the SB-E version either, but from the results I've seen elsewhere, it's at the top tier for cooling the SB-E (unlike the Archon SB-E, which seems to be too small to take advantage of the extra heatpipes - I have an original Archon and Silver Arrow, got rid of the NH-D14).

According to X-bit Labs: Silver Arrow SB-E is slightly better than that 5x8mm Phanteks unit when using the same fans or at the same noise level - on the SB-E platform. I'd say those 2 sinks are at the top. There was another site, foreign, that uses very high overclocked settings for testing...showing the silver arrow on top - can't remember what it was.

Yea Ivy's heat is anyways trapped under the IHS, so comparing temps on Ivy's wouldn't be that good.

I've also used a Silver Arrow and finishing-wise, I think that it's the best. Being a few C's better than the D14 wasn't much of a difference. Now I'm using Phanteks and it's a pretty awesome cooler given the fans installed are equally good (stock fans suck though with just 50CFM).

I don't have a good comparison on temps as I used the SA on a 2500K and now I'm using Phanteks on a 3570K (two different worlds I know). But since I changed Intel's TIM, I can easily hit 5Ghz and that just feels good. Cinebench CPU run of a 3570K @ 5Ghz is faster than a 2500K @ 5.3Ghz, this much is confirmed.

As far as Xbit labs are concerned, I really find their data unreliable. I rather look at Vortez as they have some really interesting figures (even with different fans installed).
