Hey guys,

I have an XFX video card I am shipping back for RMA. I had put the Zalman cooler on it with the included ramsinks. Since I have to remove them and put them on the returned card...who makes really good thermal tape that I can buy and use for the reapplication. I have artic silver epoxy but I don't want to use that for fear of a future return in which I would be totally screwed.

Please clarify. It sound like you said you want to take off the ramsinks and put them back on the same card...that certainly doesn't make sense, and I know it can't be what you meant.

Do you mean you want to put the ramsinks on another card? That would make sense.

Unfortunately, in any case, the answer is that nobody makes "good" thermal tape.

For those who are truly [H]ard enough, the answer is to take very fine-grade sand paper, and gently sand down the RAM until it is smooth - it doesn't take a lot, and for heaven's sake be careful. Then, take a toothpick and put a TINY amount of super-glue (I use "Goop" - you can find it in craft stores) on each corner of the RAM, then put a TINY amount of Arctic Silver in the center of the RAM. Align and press the ramsink onto the RAM and hold it for a few seconds. The ramsink will stay on very well, and if you need to remove it in the future you simply give it a gentle twist, and it will come right off; clean the RAM chip with isopropyl alchohol, and it will not even be noticable that anything happened.

I have been doing this since I had my Radeon 9700, and it work perfectly with every card I've owned.

No, he wants to reapply them to the new card he gets' from RMA

Just use the same tape, but make sure it doesn't get all covered in lint

Soaking tha tape in alcohol re-stickifies it usually.
