thermal sensor w/ extra long probe cable?

i was looking for thermal sensor displays (CompuNurse - Advanced) and it only has a 3 foot long flat headed thermal probe. since i want to be able to put the display on my desk and the computer about 5 feet away is there a product with these specs.
or can i soldier and extra length of wire to the probe. would this cause the thermal sensor to become inaccurate?
