Thermal pad alternative.

I have an old geforce 6800 GT which started to give artifacts. I baked it and they were gone. couple of months later artifacts are back. Seems to me thermal pads no longer do their job. Since the heatsink doesn't actually touch the ram chips I can't use only thermal grease.

What could I use as a thermal material?
 
I would just order new pads..they are cheap enough and you know its done right...

eBay has lots of them,as does Newegg and Amazon
 
Also look at modding sites Like performance-pcs.com or frozencpu.com they usually have a pretty good selection.
