Hey guys, I Just got a Thermaltake PurePower (the ones that are 36 bucks on the Egg) and wasn't able to get anything up and running. The machine would turn on for about a tenth of a second, the case and cpu fan would move a milimeter and then it would turn right off.

After a bit of jcakin around, I found out that if I unplugged the floppy drive connector (which I was also using for one of the case fans) it would miraculously run. Everything else goes perfect, just can't hook up the drive. I'm willing to live with it, RMA'ing would be a pain, but I was wondering what the problem could be and If i'd be able to fix it?

I had that problem once, turns out I had the floppy connector connected one pin off!!!! check and see if that is your problem, you can even force the connector on upside down, been there, done that :D

agreed the FDD is shorting ;)

if its not a connectrion problem
its a bad FDD

you where "hard testing" the PSUs short protection :p

System fan hooked up to the FDD connector (is that 12v? or 7?) was also shorting the PSU.

12V

and there is likely a problem with that connector
repin, replace, avoid or whack it off ;)

From what I hear however, installing a new SATA with a floppy is going to be a problem......

Is there a way to mod one of my molex´s to hook it up to the floppy?

Slipstream your XP installation with a program called Nlite or something comparable.

Nlite homepage

What you want to do is integrate text mode drivers into your setup.

Burn that custom WinXP install CD and there ya go.

that would basically be harder than repinning it
look for an adapter, or splice the wires of an old known good one to that one

or as mentioned learn how to live without
of course generally first you pull all the drivers, aps ect off your floppy media
I recently got a bootable USB drive, but Im still in no hurry to ditch all my FDDs
as I have tons of small utilities, drivers, ect on media
