A few years ago I hit a local auction and picked up a ton of old stuff. In there were these rock solid looking monster 7 bay scsi cd towers. I got an idea to take the base off one and the top off another and screw them together. So that I had two top sections bolted to a center section. And that is about as far as I got until about 6 weeks ago.

Suddenly I got the bug to get this thing to a usable state. So I commenced with the template making and cutting like mad with the dremel.

I decided on a multi part stone type spray on finish to give it a rough texture and make it hopefully appear as much like a slab of granite as I could.

Well not exactly what I expected, but it will do.

Here are a couple detail shots of the lock on one side.

And here is a close up of a hinge.

With that out of the way, it is on to the motherboard tray etc.

I have got the drive bay mounted, and a DVD burner in it, but no good pics of it yet.

I still have to mount the LEDS and power switch. Right now they are just lying in the case.
Will be getin a few more pics in here of the tweaks I hopefully do soon. Not waiting 2 or three years like this phase did !

I am new to making a worklogs. Mine is nowhere near as pro as some of you guys. I guess I could list some of the parts here.

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4
Power Supply Rosewill RV2-700 w
CPU Intel Quad 2.4
The rest, nothing fancy 250 gb hard disk.
couple gigs of ram
an SATA DVD burner
a sparkle GTS-250 1gb video

I hope to get some killer memory bigger disk and vid eventually. Baby steps !

Damn, we just decommissioned one of these:

Bought it new in 1998. With a whopping "fast-SCSI" speed of 10MBps connection.

Nice paint job. I was thinking of taking ours and dropping in a mATX MB and some hot-swap 3.5" drive trays, making a small NAS out of it. I like what you did with the dual power supply pods. Nice idea.

just about identical to the ones I picked up at auction. Yeah, I thought later on down the line that space could be used for about anything. More power, cooling or stuff some hard drives in the other power bay end.

I too had a couple of these boxes around but ended up throwing them away. It was just to heavy for my liking. The thing is a tank.

They are for sure super heavy. A bit lighter after you take out all the guts. But still not something you would travel around with. I kind of figured if I got robbed and the thief grabbed it, they would most likely figure the hell with that heavy thing and leave it.
