The front lights...

They are pretty tricky and was wondering how they go. The plug has an arrow on one side and the motherboard has a negative and a positive. I always get messed up with these lights...
 
Do you mean the jumpers to the motherboard? No one here can answer that unless they know what motherboard you have... it should be in the manual or on the company who made it's website
 
just try them each way. It doesnt matter if the plug is backwards, the light just wont turn on.

Unless you are asking where ont he motherboard to hook them up.
 
Eh, your motherboard manual should have all of the information necessary regarding this.

...yep. You won't hurt anything if they are plugged in backwards, the LED's just won't light up.

Thanks...What about the power button and "speaker"? Same thing?

I don't know what the hell the speaker one is...

My motherboard is the IC7 so any owners out there wanna hook me up? Case is Antec...
 
yeah, unless you have your jumpersettings memorized, look online, and the case really doesnt matter
 
Abit boards have writing above/below each post to let you know what goes where. White text, if you look closely.
 
Well the Antec manual says the labels on the cables should face the front so I will try that...I found the jumper settings in teh Abit maual but it doesn't tell me which way the cable should be inserted so I will try both I guess...

I really think that the worst that can happen is that whatever you are trying to hook up won't work. I did have one weird MoBo / case combo where the polarity of the power switch mattered. Rare, but if it won't start, it's quick to check.

The speaker.....does the IC7 have one of those little piezo speakers on board like the Intel boards...?? Can't remember; if they do, there may be no speaker pins....like the Intel's.

My Gigabyte manual had a layout and everything was color coded so just followed the directions. It was pretty easy to do. I have an Antec 1080 case so each of the connectors is of course seperated. And my 8KNXP board did have a place to hook in the speaker wire.

If you think that is fun, hook up the front USB and Firewire ports lol.

Yeah I am doing that...

It is weird though, in the Antec manual, it says the wires are all separate...But when I looked at the wires, they are all together with a connecter...Anyone have an explanation?
 
i have plugged front usbs in all kinds of ways.. and they always worked... i wonder sometimes if it doesn't even matter...

and for the power thing... just do what i do, only hook up the power button, and maybe the reset... who needs hdd lights and beeps anyways?
 
they should standardize this like the OEMs do one plug for all front connections.

You need the HDD lights so you know when your PC is accessing the hard drive. Sometimes its important to know when it is and when it isn't.

You need the speaker hooked up for the beeps so that if your system doesn't post and it gives you a beep code your able to diagnose what the problem is.

I guess they do it this way so they give people the freedom to pick and choose what they want operating where as if you just had one plug they would all have to be on. Along with the HDD LED on the front of my Antec case i also have 2 extra LED's i can assign for whatever.
