I don't feel that my participation in the contest is newsworthy but the contest itself certainly is news.

That and the fact that Intel is giving away $100 to some lucky voter every week for the next five weeks.

I'm not asking for pimpage. I think the Decomatic can win on its own merit but it takes voters to vote.

I contacted Steve yesterday morning 5 minutes after the site went live and way before the press release.

I'll leave it alone. I'm getting tired of listening to myself moan and carry on.

To me personally, I think your design is a head and shoulders above the rest.

It's and extremely clean design, and I really dig that. What metal you did use are perfect accents and really set off the piece.

You got my vote. :)

I think the designer of the three BICOM computers made a big mistake by posting a comment (advertisement??) on my Digg.

Heh when you spend a lot of time reading tech anything you learn quickly there are a lot of shills out there. At least he was honest and admitted he made the pieces he was commenting on.
 
I finally get a news posting and you guys knock down the site....an Intel site.

Actually Intel contracted with Podtech.net to build and host the site. I suspect there are several unhappy Intel people this morning.

They added actual vote counts last night. Kinda tacky IMHO.
 
Excellent design Slip! I loved you you put it on your digg, "Yes. Very pretty lights and buttons."

Just about sums up the total difference in your design and theirs, and how they really haven't thought anything through with that design.

Exactly. In a home theater environment, the only thing I want to see is the TV. Glowy buttons are nice on occasion, but not in this situation.
 
I'm not proud of that. I try not to criticize other's work. He did ask for it by posting his advertisement in my Digg.
 
I threw up the Press Release for the contest this morning. I made no mention of anything so that way we can say if it wins, it won on its own merits. :)

That's cool. Steve posted the same thing Thursday morning but the intelchallenge.com site was down for five hours. This will give HardOCP'ers a chance to vote.

Let me explain the name. In the 30's-40's the word Automatic was a new and very popular, high tech word. All of the newly invented machines and gadgets made things Automatic instead of Manual. Automotive transmissions are still current examples that have survived through the years.

The word Automatic, and variations of it, started to become brand names because....it was cool sounding back then.

I was trolling ebay one day and came across a vintage TV called the Videomatic. I like it.

So I combined Art Deco, Videomatic and a little sense of humor...stirred it up and well....the rest is history/

Yeah...March 20th issue, page 21.

At the time of the interview I guessed what equipment would be in computer by the time the issue hit the newstands. I got everything right except the hard drive size. ;)
 
So much for being judged on merit. The German/Austrian press is pimping hard for mCubed...as they should.

As soon as Intel started posting the vote counts it became a popularity contest.

I need to figure out if I'm going "full pimp" or just lose with dignity.

I haven't published the full worklog anywhere but the rules here say I can't do a worklog for a completed project.

I hate losing. :mad: Vote!

Ya don't do the pimping thing, I usually lock those threads. If you have new info go ahead and bump the thread but I'd prefer you don't do it just to get votes. Can't win them all man, I found that out long ago.

You know that this thread is in the wrong place. It belongs in the Case Mod Gallery.

I have replaced the initial photo with a "gallery-sized" photo.

It is not the only place. It IS however the first place I posted and this thread has more info than any other place I've been.

I don't "hang" at any one forum. I do however consider myself a HardOCP case modder because the only worklog I have ever done is here at HardOCP. Last year's Unidyne PC was a great experience and I look forward to doing another. Last I looked The Unidyne PC worklog was close to 50,000 views.

The contest didn't really allow me to do a real-time worklog for the Decomatic. I did however take over 500 photos during the construction.
 
Sorry you didn't win. I thought the designs that won were really tacky an obtrusive. And the fact that they were kept under wraps until the awards meant that except for receiving this award, they will never see the light of day again.
 
Sorry to hear you lost :(... I still think your case is the best of them all. Looking forward to seeing your next worklog/build :cool:.
 
Oh man, just found this. What a tasteful design. I'm very fond of it. I'd love to see a variation that played up the semi-50's deco radio look of it. It already matches my old silver face stereos as it is. Nice work.
