The Ati and Nvidia equivalent

I was just wondering what is the ati equivalent of a GF FX5200? a radeon 9000pro? Im thinking of upgrading my friends videocard from a fx5200 to a radeon 9600pro for half-life 2. The card only cost $110 which was a great deal for a 9600pro.

The 9600 SE, it is ATI's slowest DX9 card that I know of. The 9200 would be comparable to a Geforce 4 MX, though somewhat faster.

The bottom line is that your friend will be able to run the DX9 instead of the DX8.1 he's running now. I'd expect the image quality to improve a lot, and perhaps the framerate to be close depending on the settings you choose.

A 9600PRO will fare significantly better than an FX 5200 in HL2 and other games. But if you want a "big" performance boost I'd go for a 6600GT.

Its impossible to find a 6600gt that is AGP! also $110 doesn't compare to $220+

5200 = 9200
9600 Pro = 5700 Ultra, don't even mention a 5800 (terrible card)

You'd want to get either a 9700 Pro (some guy in FS/FT is selling one for $110) or a 9600 Pro

Forgot to mention, those $100ish 9600 Pros are a good deal. Newegg.com has Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pros (and sometimes even XT's) at or a little over $100.

Yep thats where i bought the 9600pro for $110 at newegg refurbished
