The story is I have been using a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ on this 3.0Eghz Prescott (P4 obviously) and it's been idling pretty high at around 50's/ 52'c ish. and gets up to like 68'c load. Well I took that thermaltake off and I noticed that some of the Arctic Silver 5 was hardened and dried on the processor where the heatsink wasn't fully on the processor (and I was thinking, wtf) so i cleaned all the AS5 off with alcohol (being very careful of coarse) and so i put the original HSF unit on there (came with the processor) and it's now idling at 44'c (earlier (30min ago) it was idling 50/51) now it's running much cooler. What I don't understand is that how would it be so uneven? Maybe TT just doesn't make a good product anymore?
Anyway what's another good alternative for a HSF that is reasonably priced (college student with not so many funds for something like a nice HSF right now).
