Testing a New H100

I will be building an IB system when the chips are available, but I've started stocking up on parts with good deals for the build. I grabbed the H100 a couple of days ago. I would like to test it to see if there are any pump problems, so I can RMA before I even have the CPU. I don't want to waste the thermal paste already on the H100 as I've read it's quite good (all I have otherwise is AS5).

What's the best way to connect the H100 to my existing setup to just run the pump and the fans a little bit before the RMA deadline ends?

The only thing connects to the cpu fan header is a small cable from the pump that is supposed to send a reading to you motherboard so it can tell you have a cpu cooler installed. Then all rad fans plug into the pump. Make sure all the fans are plug into the pump right because they can be kind of tricky to line up. Good Luck.

Wait how to you get to 'auto' mode then? Isn't there three settings, low, medium, high, as well as 'auto'?

Why would I mind? :) It's at TD right now for 100. It's not amazing, but I haven't seen it go much lower in the past.
 
There's a digital knob on the CPU that manages that setting, no?

There's a button on CPU that lets you select between one of three various fan RPM profiles. Corsair has a blog post on what the three different profiles are and their respective fan settings:

I've had mine a few days now, and I haven't seen any sort of "auto" setting.

honestly I've read so many reviews in the last few days, they all string together. I'm thinking now that 'auto' is actually the 'balanced' or 'medium' setting.
 
They are all "auto" just different profiles. Just depends on how cool you want your cpu to stay. The higher the setting the louder but lower core temps. Mine runs and the low setting and after hours of prime95 the highest temp I've ever seen is like 62. Im running push/pull though. You can't even hear the fans ramp up in speed. Its awesome to say the least ha. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I connected the fans. I expected to see different fan speeds as I cycled through the profiles, either full rpm or lowest rpm since the cpu header is disconnected. They didn't change speed though. Could this have to do with the fact that the cpu header isn't plugged in? Has anyone tried this?

As for the pump noise, I'm going to watch some youtube vids on what it should sound like. I can hear it close up, but it's inaudible a few feet away over my other low speed case fans.

Keep in mind that more agressive cooling profiles cause the cooler to ramp up fan speeds quicker than lower settings. But the cooler won't deem it necessary to increase fan speed at low temps regardless of which profile is selected. So if you change profiles at CPU idle you will probably not notice much of a difference

There have been several problems in the past with the pumps and profiles of H100. I bought it before I need it. I want to make sure I don't need to RMA. How is that hard?
 
Besides with water cooling and electronics, better safe than sorry. Pre-testing can pre-empt potential issues due to manufacturing, shipping, etc..
Last thing you want to do is have a leak and underpressure, you are out a motherboard/cpu and or GPU.
