over the weekend my cpu temps were around 28-33C idle and my system temps were basically around 19-20C. at load the system temps stayed the same and the cpu temps hovered around 40C. well my computer took a break for a day while i painted some plastic panels. upon disassembling the panels i noticed one of my front intake fans (2x80mm vantec stealths in the front and rear) was mounted blowing air outside the case rather than into. so i fixed it hoping my temps would drop even more, but the opposite happened. now i'm around 40C cpu and 30C system idle. is the fan the culprit? do i have my fans faced in the right direction? basically how should i set up my fans?

temps jumped unexpectedly, help!!!!

i'm pretty sure. if the front of the fan is where the wires come out, then i have all the fronts of the fans facing towards the rear of the case. funny thing is it seemed like when i had one of the intake fans backwards i had better temperatures. would the 120mm fan on the bottom of my psu be a problem?
Well if your airflow is supposed to be like in the diagram, and your computer reads it as too hot, check manually (open the case up, touch the heatsink, see if there's hot spots in the case etc). There could be several complications such as dust build up, malfunctioning temperature probes and the unseating of your cpu heatsink.
Just remember, more case fans does not equal lower temperatures. Often having side panel fans can hinder airflow. It is summer here and my temps are cpu 50C and mobo 31C , where do you live?

thats basically how my airflow works. i'm from the bay area and we've had a heat wave over the past week or so. but at night when temperatures die down so do my temps. however, ever since my temps jumped up, the weather has gotten cooler and my temps have failed to go down during the cooler night hours.
Check the fans again, there should be two arrows molded into the plastic of the fan. One arrow shows the direction the fan blades spin, the other arrow shows the direction of airflow. Make sure the front fan is actually blowing into the case, and the back fan is actually blowing out of the case. The PSU fan is always an exhaust.
Other possibilities include cables blocking airflow that werent blocking it before. Tie your cables back. Maybe your fans arent getting power. Turn your computer on with the panel off to make sure your fans are spinning up, use your hand to feel the airflow to make sure it is going in the right direction.
If none of that is the problem, I would go ahead and put the fan back the way it was before. If you were getting better temps that way, then that is the way to go.

well i changed me fan back to the way it was and this time my system temps rose about 2C. so now i have my fans back to how they are supposed to be and my temps are still around 40C/30C at load when it is fairly cool in my room. after leaving the computer on for a while i felt around looking for warm places. the hard drive was somewhat warm, but not extremely hot and so was the area near the video card. the heatsink was just a tad bit warm, but ok to touch. a day after installing everything in my new case with the new hsf and case fans my load temps for my system dropped below 20C and a day later (probably because the artic five settled) my cpu temps were below 30C. oh i tried to leave my computer on without the side panels and there is at most a 1-2C difference in all the temps. oh yeah, these temps are consistent throughout corecenter and the bios.
