Templates without vCenter

How do you handle deploying VM's from a virtual machine/template if you do not have vCenter? I have VM that was setup how it needed to be, all updates, software etc and need to create another VM using its same setup. A Template is what I would do but we do not have vCenter Server setup.

I could not figure out how to do this so I installed vCenter stand alone converter on it and just converting it to a new VM with a new computer name and vcenter converter generates a new SID. Is this an ok way to do this? Just make sure the name and IP are changed and check the SID id to make sure it changed properly?.

The only other trick that i can see is that you need the sysprep files for more customizations.
