I've got a Dell Poweredge 800 server with a built in tape drive. Suggestions on software to manage this device? OS is windows 2003 server.
 
Not sure what you mean by "managing". Windows should have the capabilites to read/write to the drive by default.

Now if you mean managing backups, etc., it really depends on if you want to use the ultra-shitty backup software built into Windows, or if you want to invest some money and get something decent, like Veritas.
 
Just steer miles clear of Veritas if you value your life. I know many customers who haven't paid for their service contracts since the Symantec takeover, simply because Symantec can't be assed to meet their own SLAs or fix major bugs - including one that was reporting backups as valid, while there was nothing on the tapes at all.

I would agree that Veritas has it's quirks and a fair share of Maintainence Packs, but it hasn't been just since Symantec bought them out.

Other than having to apply too many MPs to our servers, it works fine for us.
 
Yes, I've also had issues with Veritas on a Windows 2000 server, but its the only tape mgmt program I know of. and I definately don't want to entrust microsoft to backup...

What software do you recommend to a company on a budget?
