I need to buy a monitor for my uncle's study, which will hook up to his macbook pro. As his budget is $200-250 (250 is absolute max), I have been checking out TN panels in that range. The ones that seem to fit the bill the most are Samsung's T220HD and 2333HD. They both cost just about the same, and have identical specs - so I would have gone for the 23" 2333HD - but then noticed that the 2333HD is 16:9 (as opposed to 16:10) and runs at 1920x1080 resolution.

So my question is, is 16:9 really that bad for a display that will be used primarily as a computer monitor (for applications like Firefox, iTunes, iPhoto, MS Office and PDF viewing)? Is 1920x1080 too cramped a resolution for a 23" display? I personally own two T260HDs which both run on 1920x1200 - so having almost the same resolution on a smaller screen sounds a bit dodgy. Which one would you guys recommend, out of these two? If you have another monitor to recommend altogether, that'd be great too. Thanks in advance!

*Edit: What about Dell alternatives? I have never used a Dell monitor, so what does say the Dell 2209W have to offer over these Samsung monitors?
