Hey All,

Looking for some clarification about proper ways to maximize the throughput of my Synology NAS

I have a DS1813+ with 8x 4TB drives, one kept as a hotspare.

My Current array is a single volume SHR2 (raid 6ish) of 7 drives.

Only using one of the 2 gigabit ethernet ports at this time.

One folder (for open projects) gets backed up to a second, smaller NAS and is most active. A second Folder (main storage) holds all other data and doesn't require an active backup.

I usually have 2-3 users using the volume at once, working out of the open projects folder. I see that its utilization is near or at peak during heavy use but the overall disk utilization never moves above 60%. My users have some performance drops during these times.

With link aggregation, I feel its possible to better utilize the arrays full throughput, but would like to confirm two things:

One: Since the volume's utilization is maxed out, does that bottleneck transfer rates?

Two: If I created 2 working volumes + 1 storage volume, would that better distribute resources?

Three: Am I totally off? if so, whats the best way to handle this issue other then buying more stuff.
