Syncing thumb drive with security?

I want to keep copies of a lot of my source code on my thumb drive, and I want the following 2 features:

-The ability to sync up with the source code on my computer, and update with whatever is more current.

-Security on the thumb drive, so it can't be accessed without a password of some sort.

Also, the ability to not be able to turn on/use my desktop without the thumb drive plugged in first as a key would be a nice feature too.

Is any of this doable?
 
It's certainly do-able from the security standpoint. Some drives come with an application, and I believe if you hit up some download sites (download.com, majorgeeks.com) you'll find some tools that will do it.
 
there are programs out there for the security of your drive. they basically create a hidden partition on teh drive that can only be accessed with that software and a password.

i would love to find software to be able to sync mine to my desktop as well...i've never found anything available that has the features thats worth the cost.

to use it to boot yoru comptuer, it's not posible. their are applications which use a type of thumb device but it's simply a security key. you would basically be required to buy a new thumb drive that would match the security system. (like secureide packaged by abit)
 
I just got a Lexar 512mb JumpDrive Secure. It uses AES encryption and asks for a password to access the drive. However I just saw on slashdot last week that the encryption is crackable, but it will still works fine for everyday use. I don't know about the syncing thing, I think I would like that feature as well.
 
The SanDisk Cruzers come with a little security program called CruzerLock that "...is a Windows application that provides security protection for your personal data on your Cruzer Mini USB Flash Drive."

I've never used it, but it comes with the drive for free, if you're looking to buy a drive too.
