Every other reboot, Sygate Personal Firewall bugs me about stuff like windows explorer/nt logon/svchost/imapi etc trying to broadcast a router solicitation to the 224.0.0.2 address. Should I allow it since it's a local adress so it's safe or should I block these solicitations? Will any windows functionality cease to work if I block all this stuff?

Thanks.

That sounds like something UPnP does. You might try disabling the UPnP and SSDP services if you're not using that stuff and see if it goes away.

Thanks for the tip. I disabled those two services but continued getting the solicitations. From further searching I found out these processes are looking for routers on the network and it appears to be harmless. So I think I'll flip a coin on the next popup messages I get to allow it or block it...
