When trying to install Suse Linux 9 on my system (P4 2.4, 2x36GB SATA WD Raptors, Maxtor 80GB (installing linux on this hd), Sony DRU 510A, Sony FDD, PC Power & Cooling 510W PSU, 2X256 OCZ PC3700 rev 1 mem, Visiontek 9800 Pro 256 MB vid card, etc...have this problem.

Install hangs on 1st screen - tonight I pulled the 2 sata connectors from the raptors and the OS is installing now. How can I get the serial ata drives recognized by this linux distro?
Hoping I can also get some semblance of drivers for the ATI video card too, had problems with other distributions in this effort.
WinXP Pro resides on the western digital drives, plus storage, apps, etc, using the 80 gigger as the linux drive for now.

Any help appreciated, not a linux rookie but hi end equipment doesn't seem to be as well supported in Linux as in windoze, etc. Thanks!
