Surround sound trouble

Ok, I have a creative audigy 2 ZS platinum and creative SBS 560 5.1 surround speakers. I just popped in thief 3 and I'm only getting sound from the front L and R speakers, a faint sound out of the sub, and no sound out of the rear and middle speakers..just a bit of static. I thought it might just be a thief problem so I ran some tests. I started playing some surround files and I was not getting any sound from the middle speaker, and very little from the sub. I checked the wires and downloaded the newest drivers from creative and still no luck.

This is honestly my first time using non-onboard sound, so I really have no idea what i'm doing when it comes to this stuff...any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Well, I got the sub, front, and rear speakers working, but the middle channel is still all low static...nothing else comes out. Anybody have any ideas?
 
I had CMSS on, and still no middle channel. And aren't you supposed to have EAX options turned off in windows and only turn them on during games through the audio settings. I heard if you have it on in windows it could screw some things up with the sound.

Anywa, I ran the diagnostics tests again, and I'm getting sound from all speakers except the middle, which seems to be completely off...except i can hear static if i put it up to my ear when nothing is playing.
 
Still nothing out of the central speaker which is really driving me nuts. i can't hear things head on and I'll be damned if I turn 5.1 off in games like thief. I've tried running through calibration, re-installing the drivers. Is there anything that I'm not thinking of?

jubei, you've obviously rotated the speakers around to test if it's just that one speaker that may be giving you the problem. Essentially, to test if it's the center port on the back of the card , or maybe one of the speakers themselves. It couldn't hurt to try that and then eliminate it as a possible cause. Sometimes it's a matter of moving the speakers/ wires around.

I gave an Inspire 5.1 set to my sister, and seem to remember having to do that once.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've switched around the speakers to see if it was blown and it is fine. I've tried switching around the wires to the Audigy, and it seems that the sub, which is also part of the middle channel, will run even though the middel channel wire is unplugged. Whichever port i plug the middle channel into it gives nothing, and when i put the other wires into the middle channel port I get a little poping noise as they slide in, but still nothing when i plug it in all the way. So, would that indicate that the middle out on the audigy is bunk?
 
Thought I'd post the fix in case anybody else has this problem.

I took the board out of the sub and checked for clean connections with a cheap voltage meter. For some reason there was globs of glue that kept the power wire in place on the board. I scraped a bit of that away from the center channel pathway and put it back in. Been runing perfect ever since.
