I just finished building my computer and looking for a good benchmark to compare it against others pc. the 3dmark would not be the best thing, since I am not really a gamer so the pc only has a 8400gs card. but what would be a good software to benchmark the cpu and ram performance.
i ran SuperPi to 1m mark and got 19 seconds not sure if this is good or average.

For a stock clocked processor thats fine. I think I run it in about 10 seconds. Super PI doesnt really use all your cores though, I dont think. It also relies on FSB/ram for its results. If your looking to test your PC, I would try some of the PC Mark and 3D mark programs, and you can try out cinibench.

You could try just running the CPU sections of 3dMark. Also Everest Ultimate has some benchmarks, though I don't know how good they are.

10 seconds @ stock, maybe at 3.8 yea but no way at stock.

OP: Yea 3dmark is a little intense for that card have the 8600gt one as a friend let me borrow it until i get another and it doesn't score too greatly in it. Hits in over 5k range a bit better then my x1800xt did though.

I really wouldn't too much care about the Super-Pi also as it is a pretty old program and doesn' even offer dual core support anyway. 1995 was the release of that app, so take that with a grain of salt.

Also don't worry about benchmarks, just enjoy your new pc and play games or whatever you like to do. Though it is fun to do, get you a new video card and you'll have a blast then.

Good Day

cinebench 64 bit (release 10) is a great benchmark i think. it lets you run individual benchmarks for one core and both cores at a time. it also can benchmark your 3d card, but that probably won't really matter to you.

I got 4615 in the dual cpu benchmark with my cpu in my sig lightly overclocked to 2640MHz

Yea i like cinebench 10 also. Anyone remember that benchmark called "RenderBench" that drawed the house at 800 x 640 and still took a long time was crazy. Old but good stuff oh the memories.

Good Day
