SunRay + VMware View - questions

Hello,

I've recently set up a small POC for our Director of IT utilizing Sun's SunRay thin clients, sunRay server software 5 running on solaris and connecting to VMware View 4 w/ View composer on ESX4 vSphere with the sunRay view connector. everything is working fairly well (have yet to implement smartcard authentication and multimonitor support etc) but my biggest hurdle right now is HA/clustering

Because I need to use Solaris for the server software, I can't use VMware FT, and I'm a total Solaris n00b (have to use it, view connector doesn't work on SRSS for linux) so I figured I would make a load balanced cluster using an F5 BigIP virtual server.

Wondering if anyone has done something similar here, I know most people are more geared towards server virtualization, which I am as well, but because it's backed with VMware, i"m doing desktop-ish stuff.

Why not using Sun Ray Failover ?

When you configure SRSS5, you have the choice to use the fail over groups.
 
took a look at it, but it's mostly my unfamiliarity with Solaris and the fact that my SRSS server(s) are not running DHCP. I just set up DHCP options 49 and 66 on my (windows) DHCP server for the VLAN that the DTU's are on. I don't fully understand (more reading required) how the active/active FoG works with Solaris boxes or anyhting, I've only skimmed the SUN wikis about it pretty much.

I just thought, since I'm used to working with F5 BigIP clusters in our production environment, I'd set up the virtual server as my SRSS server, so the DTU's think it's the xwindows and tftp server, and have it load balance for the SRSS BigIP pool

I jsut have no idea if it will work (until I get around to having time to test it) and wanted to know if anyone had thoughts.

The technical analyst that came onsite with our sun rep hadn't ever actually set up a cluster of SRSS servers, he's only done small scale PoC's so I think he was gonna try it out and get back to me.

I suppose this all stems back to me trying to avoid lerning how to use Solaris :p
