Hey guys, Ive been folding for the horde for a couple years now off and on but im really trying to give it a good go this time. My question is this: Is there anything I can do to increase my PPD. I have a dual core T2300 laptop that i have running the SMP core (totally trashes is with the heat but i think i have a ghetto fan rig working good enough to prevent it from shutting down) and a celeron 2.8ghz (northwood i believe) running the gui client. Also I have my ps3 and my brothers ps3 running. Any suggestions on how i can churn out some more points?

Add an nVidia 8 series or newer card to your desktop. 8800 GTs can be found for around $100 I believe. Should be good for 3-4k per day.

Welcome to the forums, glad to have you aboard.
Your point per day looks abit low for your hardware
Your stats show 900ppd, you show be more than that. From your hardware:
PS3 approx 900PPD x 2 plus t2300 lappie approx 900ppd plus cel 2.8 ~200ppd
equals 2900ppd folding 24x7. Your SMP client doesn't seem to show up
in your stats, might check your config?
 
I would love to add a gpu to the folding but unfotunately i would have to upgrade my mobo to pci-e. At that point i would be building a new computer and im unemployed right now
 
What about overclocking the celeron box? Will it make much difference?
 
Well the second ps3 was just added a few hours ago and my laptop hasnt finished a SMP WU yet. But fahmon reports the celeron as approx 110ppd and the laptop as 570ppd

Every little bit helps. Since it's a Northwood, I expect it will clock close to 3.5GHz. That's quite a decent OC providing you have sufficient cooling of course.

An Ati AGP 3850 will also work with the GPU2 client and provide you with close to 2000PPD if not more. I don't know what that will cost, but definitely cheaper than a new board+card, etc. You might find one for $100 used on the FS forum. One card like that can probably produce more than your current combined production.

OC the Celeron might net you a few extra PPD, but get rid of the GUI client and switch to the console client. My 3.4GHz Northwood P4 is averaging about 240PPD, but the client is also configured to receive bonus WUs. I'm sure you can get the Celeron over 150PPD with an OC and client reconfiguration.

 
I just installed a Linux VM on my lappy (T7500). With 2665's, I was barely eaking out 1000 PpD (just below that actually). With the Linux VM, I'm gettting 2662's and I'm at 1620 PpD. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and the final release of the Linux SMP Client. It was well worth the effort to gain the extra PpD from the lappy.
