This is my first real post other than posts looking to sell or buy.
I was wondering if my system has hit its maximum potential.
Current rig:
Processor: e6400 2.1 running at 3.0 air cooling
Heatsink: Scythe Ninja with nexus 120 mm fan
Ram: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Mobo: Asus p5b deluxe non wifi edition
Vid card: EVGA 8800gts superclocked 640. (g80)
Case: Lian Li A05b black.
Hard drive: WD raptor 36 gig with a Samsung 250
Monitor: dell 24 inch
PS: Seasonic S12
Right now if i do run at 3.0 im at about 58 idle. I dont know how some people ive seen get 3.5+ on air cooling and are running like 38 degrees. The case has 2 yateloon fans one in front of the hard drives for intake and one on the back of the case behind the sink as exaust. I was considering water cooling with the swiftech mcp350 water pump. The case is a reverse case with the sink on the bottom and i read that it would affect motherboards with the heat pipes on the chipsets but since ive had the case i havent really had any problems. I think i could hit higher clocks if i switched to water cooling. I am also trying to focus on a silence factor. Im probably gonna end up modding the 8800gts 640 with one of the new arctic cooling sinks if i dont try to get a 8800 gt. I heard that for the 8800gts models you need extra ramsinks for the voltage regulator or something along those lines. Any ideas on what i should do ?
