Suggestions for drive setup?

I'm about to build myself a new rig, but I'm a little confused on how to set up my drives. Idealy, I'd like a solid state for just my OS (and I suppose my anti-virus software but that's about it), as well as a drive for all my game installs and a storage drive or two. Problem is, I'm unsure as to what sizes or brands I should get.

I'm thinking an 80GB SSD, a 1TB 7200 and a 2TB 5400. Any suggestions on brands / input?

Those aren't bad suggestions actually. A 64GB solid state would actually probably be a lot better both price wise and practicality wise since I only intend for it to be a boot drive.

But why all Samsung and not a brand like Corsair or Western Digital in the case of the HDDsl? (not to be disagreeing with you, I just didn't know samsung made reputable storage devices)

I personally have issues with WD, i have had WD Black and multiple raptops go bad on me, Seagate i had issues also with some Barracudas, i avoid either if i can, although its more a personal situation.

Well if you were to go into higher size of ssds you could go with OCZ vertex, Intel 510 or Crucial M4, but atm none are releasing lower than 120gb, now inside that you got a lot of options still in the second generation, but check benchmarks and review sites, you will see that most of the smaller are crippled in their write speeds, while this Samsung 470 also slower than the 128gb and 256gb is not that big, having 170 mb/s still, while intel x25m 80gb is around 80 mg/s, Intel 320 90 MB/s and crucial c300 around 75MB/s (both more expensive btw), imo is the best small ssd that can handle compressible data well (i would avoid OCZ for this reason and also their shaddy Vertex2 25nm swap). Even though sequential are not whats most important, the drive behaves more like bigger drive than small crippled adversaries, i personally think that 64gb is too small for my needs, but if its a OS and some apps drive, should be enough.

Samsung F3, well was a very good drive at its time, it rival WD Black caviar in a lot of tests, its cheap. I personally use the 500gb version, no issues at all, its very quiet, something that WD black bother me also.

Samsung F4, well its a crowd favorite here for storage purposes, with hitachi 5k3000 seems to be very popular drives, mostly out of being cheap, but also they perform very well and run cool.

Go with whatever you trust, i just had very good experiences with Samsung, but if you dont trust it, go with with whatever you feel its better.
