With all due respect to Kyle and [H]ard OCP staff.

I just renewed my membership on the forums, so I could post an occasional note in the Anime/Manga area. The move to GenMay will prevent me from reading or posting. I do not plan to subscribe, as I feel, and this is my opinion, that forums should be free.

You opinion may differ, and I know you have bills to pay. Nontheless I feel I should state my position, and respectfully request that the Hobbies topics be put back in the free content area. I believe that at least a few people, such as myself, will miss out on content, which will lower the overall readership as time goes on.

Thanks for listening, and providing such a great Site. I have been a loyal site visitor since 1999, and hate to see a decision that will probably lower the amount of people who enjoy these forums.

I see your point and agree with some of your points regarding the amount of users decreasing.

However, for all this site does for you, you should give back to the community.
A small $15 for a lifetime is a small price to pay for all the info you get here daily.

The members that will leave due to the move are obviously not loyal members and can deal without the site. Therefore, we can deal without them.

Once I get PayPal, I too will have a subscription. I won't use Genmay that much, but $15 is not alot to pay for a place that has saved me thousands over the past few years.

You guys should really read all of the original threads dealing with this issue allready. The moving of these sub-forums has absolutlely nothing to do with increasing revenue. Kyle's original decision was to do away with them alltogether because this is primarily a hardware site. A forum member suggested putting the content under the general mayhem section and Kyle agreed. I won't get into whether or not as has been suggested that these sections were hard to moderate or were home to flame wars as I did not frequent them. I am a lifetime subscriber to general mayhem and guess what I don't think I have ever posted in there. Why because being a Canadian I can't order through Newegg to support the site so I did what I could. I come here for hardware news / reviews and tech-support (either to give or recieve). There's other places to visit for cars and hobbies information that are probably far better and dedicated to these subjects.

well this is a tech oriented site...99% of the people that visit here are not here for just the cars/hobbies section.....the ones who are need to find a forum dedicated to those...

the only thing i beleive should NOT be in genmay is the photography/video section...because that is technology...

No, I know exactly what you mean, and I know that it isn't to increase revenue. All I am saying is that some people bitch about $15.

I mean seriously, give back once in a while. This forum does so much for so many people, if you like enough, give bavk to them instead of always taking.

I agree with Kyle's decision and I know that it was to make the site more tech oriented. I like that because this site is supposed to be a tech site.

If people really want the other content, they can find it elsewhere or give back to this site that has helped them forever.

You know what I am saying?

the point is, or at least, i think the reason people (myself included) feel resentful towards Kyle et al. is because there's a difference between giving freely and essentially being told "pay or go elsewhere"

giving freely, i.e. a gift, is something that not only A) supports the forums themselves but B) signals user loyalty

a fee only accomplishes the first half ot that.

the [H]ardForums are great because of our user-base loyalty and community, not because it's a cash-cow (i highly doubt it is -- there's only two banner ads...)

a bolt-from-the-blue decision like arbitrarily moving hobbies and cars is just the kind of wilful neglect towards specific minorities (those who frequent aforementioned forums) in the community that can destroy a loyal userbase and spark resentment.

the "it's a hardware" site doesn't fly with me. Fine, it's a hardware site, go to www.hardocp.com. This is a community, welcome to www.hardforum.com
