Well, i'm getting a couple hundred bucks at the end of next week, and I wanted to know what I should do.

I dunno if I should get a PS or a vid card for my next upgrade, or a bit of both.. Here's my current system:

AMD Phenom 9950 BE - 2.86ghz (OC'd slightly)\
Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H
4gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
160gb Raptor 10k drive
160gb vanilla HD (can't remember off the top of my head)
GeForce 7900GS PCI-E
400W generic PS that came with my Micro Fly case (Google it)
19" Samsung (941BW)

I dunno if I should post this in power supplies, video cards or what.. but, I've got a problem.

I don't know how well my 400w ps is handling the current load. It's been stable for 4 days now, doing CS:S Cod4 and various other games, no crashes, bsods anything, but it's only a 400w ps and I think i'm overstressing it with my current system. (It's only 5 days old)

I can't decide if I want a Power supply, a Video card, or a combination, maybe even a PS and a HDD that's larger. I'm not sure.
I might even get a better monitor, since mine's only got a 500:1 contrast ratio..

Some advice though, since i'm leaning towards a PS so I dont end up frying my system..
But I like the radeon HD4850 also.

How much money do you have to spend in total? You can find a Corsair VX450 for $60-70, and a 4850 would run about $150-160 AR, so you could do both for just a hair over $200.

I've probably got $200 coming, but I'm willing to go over just a bit for quality components, as I do have a steady job income, I could probably take out $100 from savings if I replenished it with my next paycheck.
I just took a hit of buying the rest of the system with my last paycheck though, heh, so i'd like to keep it around $200.

HOWEVER, I did read somewhere that the Ultra MicroFly has some wierd power supply.
I've compared it to older PSes, and it's about the same size as my 350w Antec SmartPOWER from my old PC. Dunno if PSes have gotten longer since then, but I don't have much more space to work with.

It would be better to keep your money and not buy anything right now than to spend it all on stuff that you'll have to skimp on. My recommendation is that you either buy some good stuff now, or just wait until you get your next paycheck and can afford everything.

all he really needs is what he asked recommendation for!

that being the case, i listed 2 quality items, that fit in his budget, and he should be set for awhile with a seasonic 500 watt PSU. at least i think so. the only thing that 500 wouldnt work for is a Crossfire setup, which hes not considering.

he could also use a hard drive, but if he's not dying for space then he doesnt need to. although for $50 i'm sure he could get a decent 320-400GB SATA drive.

And I gave him my recommendation, which is to save some money until he can afford to buy quality parts, instead of trying to squeeze whatever he can into a budget that isn't big enough. Since the OP said he has a steady job, I really doubt it would be too much of a problem to wait a mere two weeks until he gets his next paycheck.

You're right, I could wait two weeks, but as of right now, I'm getting another check on friday, so that's why I had said Sub-200... See if I could squeeze it into that.
I dont want any huge mega GPU, and I do want ATI with my new mobo.
I wanted a slimmer GPU, the 4850, over the 4870, because I have a LANBox case (The Ultra MicroFly), and no Crossfire needed. I just want all the HDR and stuff turned on in CS:S with decent fps (as compared to my old gpu)
I think 500w is enough, and the upgrades suggested fit in my budget well enough.
Thanks for the help guys :)
